Love this Jenny. I also get caught in this, I find it so hard to ‘niche down’ because I have so many things I want to share about!! And lots of ideas and I love sharing/talking. And specifically on insta I don’t think the algorithm knows what to do with me 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I LOVE that I get such a varied learning from your podcast and Insta Cath! I think the problem is that with a topic niche like ‘re-parenting ourselves as we parent our kids’ it touches on the whole of our humans lives, and the whole of our kids lives! I think these topics are by definition un-niche-able! Xx

I read your thoughtful post with interest as someone who also chases after a niche only half-heartedly. I, like you, know it helps with visibility and followership, and also like you I find that I don’t want to box myself in too tightly, otherwise I’ll lose my interest in the endeavor! So I am with you, on the niche-adjacent front!

Thank you for confirming I’m not alone! And ooh, love that phrasing: ‘niche-adjacent’, that feels right! ❤️

After reading this - I immediately went to look how your describe yourself - as I was curious how you represented that long and fascinating list of interests. I am grappling with this at the moment - should I write along certain content niches? should I write more pieces solving problems I think my audience might have? Or do I keep writing personal stories - because like you - I do believe they can help and heal both the teller and the reader. Thanks for your thoughts on this!

It’s so hard isn’t it?! I feel like the best thing for us to do is create what we feel called to create, when we feel called to create it. I don’t think we can get it wrong if we’re listening to that little voice in us that steers us from our soul 😌 I feel like the world needs niche creators and more generalist creators, and the world definitely needs more of us following our heart and soul ❤️!

I really relate to this - so hard to put myself in a box so I’ve given up! I like to write about lots of things, so I find the right spaces for each one. And I’m currently trying out Substack to see where it fits in all of that.

Jenny! What a gift you have and have shared with us❤️. Thank you! You give me much to think about, as always, and I’m so grateful to share in this journey called life with you my friend. I heard a quote recently that came to mind as I read your piece. It said, “Maybe YOU are the magic you’ve been waiting for.” Love you!

Oh my love, thank you SO much for your kind words! ☺️ And I love that - yes, we are all the magic we’ve been waiting for! ✨❤️😌😘

Great piece and I love your philosophy. I think ideas flow much better when they come from our loved experience and then the writing is engaging and authentic

Ah thank you ❤️ Yes yes yes to the lived experience flowing ideas and engaging & authentic writing 🙌🏼❤️

I absolutely love this and it totally resonates with me. I live on a narrow boat, so I wanted to write about how/why several very difficult experiences propelled me to totally change my life. But, do I write about those experiences (which I really want to do) or do I stick to writing about boat life? What do people seem most interested in...then I realised I need to write from my heart and if no one reads it, so be it. I know when my writing isn't aligned with my heart, so I'm aiming for alignment, not likes or subscribers 😉

Thank you so much for letting me know you loved it, and it resonates with you ❤️ Yes yes yes to writing from your heart! We absolutely have to allow ourselves to evolve and always follow our heart & creative inspiration ❤️ It can’t just be about the ‘likes’, agreed ❤️😌

Love this. I was not expecting a mention at the bottom, at all, just kept thinking: this is how I feel, too! We’re so aligned! Thank you for the mention, though, that was a nice surprise xx

Dr. Jenny Turner's avatar

Ah thanks so much Annie ❤️ I also feel we are really aligned! (Another e.g.: There were so many synchronicities for me while reading ‘Raise your SQ’ recently - a fact which is likely to end up being the subject of another essay in the future!)

And you’re so welcome for the mention - I think because ‘connection’ is a core value of mine, I’m a fan of making explicit what some of the ‘connecting dots’ are in my mind, for what I’m thinking, plus I’m a fan of acknowledging the connections I have with others that inspire me ❤️
